Between moving and ice storms blogging has been scarce around here. There is some exciting news though...I have been working hard on some new additions to my website, blog and a completely new Fine Art website! My hope is to launch all of this after the new year. Stay tuned!

For our last full day in Oregon, Cara and I went with my family to the beach. It was cold, misty and perfect! Here are some cool shots from the day.
Haystack Rock - Cannon Beach, Oregon.
Cara :) Haystack Rock reflection in her sunglasses.

Our Christmas Card this year!
The family.
Another family on the beach made a huge bonfire then left... so we took it over! Lastly, we ate at Mo's at Cannon Beach. It was an awesome evening to end a great trip to the Northwest. Can't wait to go back.

Multnomah Falls, Oregon.

Wednesday of last week. My good friend Stephen took his girlfriend Cheryl to Multnomah Falls in Oregon and proposed to her! The fun part of the day was getting a heads up about the proposal and racing to beat them there in hopes to photograph the big event. It was COLD (so cold the bridge you see in the photographs was completely iced over), but awesome nonetheless. Here is the crazy part of the event... We raced up the hill thinking they already headed up to the waterfall (there is only one trail leading to the top). Once we reached the top we (my wife, Thomas and Jonathan- brothers) realized that we beat them up! We were scared and worried that we would now cross paths and create suspicion in Cheryl's mind. So my wife, brother and myself pretend that we were tourists looking into the woods with our back to the trail and they walked right by us! They didn't notice us at all...phew. As soon as they started across the bridge I found a good vantage point and started shooting away. Here are a few shots...she said yes :)

Cara and I flew into Portland last Tuesday, rented a car early the next morning with my brother and did a little day trip to Seattle to see my Dad, step-mom and step-brothers. We met my Dad for lunch at Boing field where he teaches flight school. We were able to eat at a restaurant called Randy's. I remembered eating at that restaurant as a child when I would fly with my dad early in the morning, so it was sweet to revisit. It seemed like the same grumpy waitresses worked there that did when I was there over ten years ago. That's the character of the place, which I thought was awesome. Randy's, don't ever change. After we ate lunch, Thomas, Cara and I went to burn some time at Pikes Place Market. Cara and I hadn't been there since our honeymoon last June so it was cool to get back there. Check out some of the pictures from our earlier trip there, the guy playing the piano was at the same street intersection this week as he was when we went last summer, crazy!

(Thanks Thomas for the pic)
This guy had is parrot trained better than most people have their dogs trained, it was sweet. He was showing off the tricks his parrot could do, one in which was to play dead (as he is doing in my hand). The guy also taught his parrot to remain in the "dead" position while he threw him from hand to hand. That was the point at which I asked if I could try it! Really, I was trying to see what kind of excuse he would give me that wouldn't allow me to hold or toss around his parrot. "Sure!" he said. "Whaaaaat!?" I thought. So there I was, tossing the parrot back and forth from hand to hand. It bit me a few times, but fair enough...I haven't shaved in weeks.

My wife took this in Seattle's Best Coffee escaping the cold.
Gum wall in an alley on our way back to the car. Look closely, someone wrote their initials in gum.
Thomas playing dead.
My wife, Abbey Road inspired.
(Thanks for the pic dad)
All of us with my dad after he got home from work.
Later that evening we drove back to Portland and got started with Thanksgiving and beach/waterfall visiting (those posts coming soon).

My wife and I went home to Oregon/Washington for thanksgiving. It was one of my favorite trips home since I lived in Portland.
I will try to post pictures from the trip within the next few days, things are pretty busy right now as we are in the midst of a move! Out of the trip I had three favorite days, all in which have pictures to prove it. I will try to post a day at a time within this next week so check back.
For now, this is for Kaleb...a fixie in pikes place downtown Seattle. Even the lock matches. I thought of you when I saw this bike, enjoy man!
(Kaleb recently broke his wrist and rode in an alley cat race here in OKC, racing through the streets in an arm cast he took 4th out of 60 some odd people. Congrats man!) I would love to see you do that race in a body cast, that would be sweet.

Okay not yet, but almost!
Before I go I will leave you with a few shots from some recent shoots that I haven't posted yet. Look for some photographs from the northwest soon!
...and have a great Thanksgiving. Enjoy family, friends and life.
Lechiam!
This is Taylor. She graduates this year and is off to college...Best of luck Taylor!

This is the James family! We had a great time last week during this shoot. We drove all around hopping in and out of the car whenever we found cool places to take pictures. The night ended with us going to Pop's in Edmond to enjoy our favorite soda of choice. If you live in Oklahoma City and you haven't gone to Pop's yet...DO IT. Check them out here. Enjoy the pics!

I went backpacking with some good friends of mine last week in Arkansas. We hiked part of the Ozark Highlands Trail for a few days. It was good to get out there, to embrace the fall and to put some miles on my new hiking boots.
Enjoy some of the shots from the trip... and if you haven't yet, go outside!

I received a sweet picture from my good friend Jason Smith tonight... He is with his family in the Northwest right now and I am officially jealous. Check out the local landscape, amazing!
If anyone in the northwest is getting married, fly me out for a discounted wedding!

If you haven't carved pumpkins within the last few years (or ever)...do it!
Josh, Katie, Cara and I had quite a time not only carving pumpkins, but eating their seeds (which was fantastic). I am stoked that the fall is here and can't wait for upcoming senior, engagement and wedding shoots in this fall weather! In the mean time, enjoy the pictures below. Cara rocked the pumpkin carving competition by far. Just so you know, the picture of her pumpkin below only shows one side of her multi-sided "pumpkin art."
But seriously, go and get yourself a pumpkin and embrace the fall with some friends...

I had a pretty good weekend... My brother is in town from Portland Oregon and yesterday we went hiking in the Wichita Mountains. Today I got to spend some time with some good friends and family and ride at a local pump track that is in this guys backyard. If you ever grew up following or being a part of the bmx scene, then you know who Fuzzy Hall was/is. For a short time, he was a guy who set the pace for the bmx industry (sponsored by Mongoose if that helps) during the late 90's. Fuzzy is mostly known and remembered for his backyard full of dirt jumps and a fire-pole in his house that allowed him to travel from the third floor of his house to the first at record-breaking-injury-free speeds.
The following pictures are from a local backyard pump track (reminded me of Fuzzy Hall for some reason). It's pretty awesome. We spent most of the afternoon riding, laughing and watching each other air out over this jump and occasionally eat it. I had my camera out for a few minutes for your viewing pleasure...so enjoy!

Kaleb Nimz took this picture of me (thanks Kaleb!) on what became known as my "Circus act" bike.

In my mind, hanging up my own art is like keeping pictures of myself in my wallet to show others...awkward right!? (yes, it is awkward) I am okay with an image or two, but not all eight of the images below.
For a limited amount of time I am selling the art that you see below to make room for some new project space at my house. Below each image is some basic information along with the ridiculously cheap cost of each print.
If you are interested, email me at carlzoch@gmail.com and let me know which print(s) you would like. Act quickly because I only have one copy of each of the prints below. Contact me for shipping information if you live outside of the Oklahoma City area.

...release your photos from captivity!
If you are anything like me, you have hundreds if not thousands of pictures that just sit around on your hard drive. Such a tragedy this is... Why do I (you?) take pictures only for them to sit on a hard drive never to be revisited? This is my first attempt at dusting off some old pictures from the "digital archive for the world to enjoy. The next few posts will be of random pictures from the last few years that have been laid to sleep on my hard drive for whatever reason. Enjoy the momentary resurrection of random images! Most of these haven't been seen with any other eyes but my own.
I like the images below. Having two images side by side reveals and communicates something that is often missed when an image is displayed by itself.
Enjoy life. Take pictures. Share.

I haven't picked up my camera in the last few days so... here is an update on my dog Bauer for family, friends and random visitors.
Bauer these days...
-still a border collie
-almost a year old (September 29th)
-3 backpacking trips so far
-would swim more than walk if he had the choice
-is scared of almost any object that sits in the middle of the living room that he has never seen before
-has herded his first minivan and hopefully his last!
-will make you laugh if you are around him for more than 10 minutes.

Tyler and Stacy are getting married this January, let the count down begin! I had fun walking around town with them taking pictures and hearing about their exciting plans for the future. I look forward to shooting their wedding in just a few months. Congratulations to them on their engagement!

The only thing better than fake wrestling is a civilian sword fighting his imaginary enemies in a public park. The key word here would be "Public".
I use to get frustrated when people would let their children stay inside all day and play video games. Now I know why they do it. I will never let my own children run loose in a park, so long as Conan the barbarian is swinging his sword.

A few months ago there was a window in the skies, an opportunity for about 30 minutes to take pictures without any rainfall (which by the way was rare a few months ago). Taking every advantage of the weather as possible, we made the portrait shoot happen and it went great. The cloudy dramatic skies made for some cool pictures, overall the portrait session was a success. Flash floods held off, and some good came out of it! Enjoy.

Here is a peak at my first senior shoot for the class of 2008, there were seven of them! Kaleb and I met up with all the girls at starbucks to figure out where we were going to do the shoot. We caffeinated ourselves and then headed off. Everyone was cool with driving around until we found some cool places, and so...we did. We all had fun, the weather was good, much laughter and the pictures turned out great!

I love photo shoots with friends. Last Thursday I had the opportunity to take family portraits of the Farmer's. Four members of the family flew down from Portland Oregon (my hometown) it was great to see them again! We ate some wild game, hopped into the back of a pickup truck and drove down the road to an empty field and started shooting away. It was a good time!

A few months ago I had the opportunity of doing an engagement shoot for Adam and Amanda. On July 7th, 2007 (777) we had the privilege of shooting their wedding! We had a blast throughout the day and look forward to more weddings, engagements and portraits this season! Below are a few of my favorites from the day, enjoy!

I spent the last week with teens and friends throughout the states at a youth conference in St. Louis. We had a great time, I don't think we slept before 3am except for one night. It was awesome to see old friends, meet new ones and to spend time with my friends in the youth group. What trip isn't worth it while playing would you rather on a nine-hour charter bus ride followed by "Rocky Balboa" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II" as our feature presentations. Living the dream indeed.
Mr. 5d was away most of the week, the following are from the first and last day of being there. Let me know what you think. If you don't like em, just lie, it will make me feel better.

Although these were taken in the fall, they never made the blog.
These girls wanted to surprise their Dad with some portraits for his birthday. The shoot was a lot of fun and we ended up with some good stuff!

My wife and I (yes, wife!), spent our honeymoon in Washington state. It was awesome to spend a good amount of our time in the city where I was born, Seattle. Before Seattle, we spent three days at a private cottage on Orcas Island (one of the San Juan Islands, the islands between Seattle and Canada). We had the time of our lives... We can't wait to return to Seattle soon and to Portland even sooner!
Family, friends and those who wondered onto the scene, below are perhaps too many pictures from the trip, but a collection nonetheless. Believe it or not, my camera was away for most of the trip (you're all shocked I know), but I managed to take a picture or two (by that I mean 28). Enjoy!

Well I'm getting married on Saturday and I cant wait!
Earlier this week some of my best friends and I headed to southeast Oklahoma to backpack parts of the Ouachita trail in the Ouachita mountains as a bachelor trip for my wedding. Since it was a bachelor trip, the stories will stop now. Fortunately, I do have a few snapshots of the trip. I had my camera put away for the majority of the time but managed to take a few shots here and there.
Enjoy these, and enjoy life!

My friend Kaleb was recruited today to paint on a giant canvas during a missions service at district assembly, here is what he did in 30 minutes, pretty cool...we plan to do some collaborative art work together soon, looking forward to seeing what comes of that.

Alright alright, here is a link to the crawfish pics.
I'm not sure if you can add pictures to the album, but do so if you would like to. I didn't take as many pictures as Crazy Joe did though, hit him up for some more.

Its not Oregon, but its the closest thing that helps me to forget that I am in Oklahoma...
Three o'clock yesterday afternoon, my brothers and I decided it was entirely too nice outside to stay indoors so we drove to the Buffalo Wild Life Refuge to hike the Narrows. We had the entire place to ourselves, it was awesome. For those that have been to the narrows, you'll see how high the water level is in some of the pictures, its crazy! (seven inches of rain this week) At the end, the water level allowed us to jump off some good sized boulders without crushing our skulls to death, which is never a good thing.
It was a great trip to wrap up my little brothers spring break before we had to ship him back to Portland early this morning.
Enjoy Life.

I thought that I lucked out by being in a good spot to photograph some flash flooding. After I watched the news last night, my pictures didn't compare to what went down elsewhere. It was fun taking pictures nonetheless. Peoples responses towards nature...priceless.
The blue Pontiac was a fun one to watch, the tow truck driver swam under the car to hook up a tow rope while the guy in the background held his umbrella and watched the entire thing, it was hilarious. All I can say is that Pennsylvania Avenue was a flowing river for at least a few hours. Flash floods with nearly five inches of rain, and less than 24 hours later its 70 with clear skies. I love this weather!
Hopefully this marks the beginning of a good season of storm pictures.
